Farnworth

Farnworth is a town on the up, thanks to a series of key interventions and funding designed to meet the priorities of local people.

At the heart of the town’s centre lies Farnworth Green, a spectacular new residential development by pioneering urban renewal specialists CAPITAL&CENTRIC.

Its combination of housing, commercial space and community facilities has been held up of an example of how Greater Manchester’s smaller towns can be successfully generated.

Complemented by the nearby Bolton Institute of Medical Sciences, improvements to Market Street, and an expanded leisure centre, Farnworth is now attracting significant interest from private sector investors.

Pride in Place: Farnworth's future secured with £19.5m investment

Farnworth was selected in the first phase of the government’s Pride in Place programme.

The town will now benefit from £19.5m over the next 10 years, with Bolton Council acting as the accountable body for the funding.

The Pride in Place Programme is about more than funding—it’s about giving local communities the power to decide their own future.

Focus on Farnworth Board

Each area receiving Pride in Place funding has been asked to form a Neighbourhood Board.

The Focus on Farnworth Board is designed to put local people at the centre of defining Farnworth’s future.

It brings together residents, local businesses, grassroots campaigners, workplace representatives, voluntary sector social enterprises/community organisations and faith leaders.

Together, this diverse group has created a shared vision for Farnworth’s future and mapped out a pathway to deliver it.

Nine Projects of Transformation

Over the course of the 10-year programme, Farnworth will see nine major projects rolled out.

These projects will reflect the priorities and aspirations of the community—whether that’s improving public spaces, boosting local businesses, enhancing transport links, or investing in cultural and social opportunities.

The aim is to build a Farnworth that works for everyone – a town where pride in place is more than a slogan, but a lived reality.

Further details of the projects and how you can become involved can be found on the Focus on Farnworth website or on Facebook.
