Flagship Mixed-Use Development to Transform Bolton Town Centre

The redevelopment of Crompton Place is the flagship project in Bolton Council’s ongoing regeneration programme, helping to create a more vibrant, inclusive and welcoming town centre.

The site is strategically located in the heart of Bolton, adjacent to Victoria Square and the Grade II* listed Town Hall.

Demolition of the Former Shopping Centre

Bolton Council has appointed industry leaders Rhodar to carry out the demolition of the former shopping centre to clear the way for redevelopment.

Planning permission for the demolition of Crompton Place was secured in August 2025 and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
Visitors to the town centre will quickly see the benefits, thanks to the reintroduction of a direct pedestrian route between Victoria Square and Bradshawgate.

There are also plans to use a key part of the newly cleared space for public performances, events, pop-up markets and more.

Development of the Multi-Use Site

The company behind some of the UK’s biggest urban regeneration projects has been confirmed as Bolton Council’s partner for the redevelopment.

The site will be developed by Federated Hermes’s specialist development arm, MEPC.

MEPC has a proven track record of delivering major urban regeneration and placemaking schemes, including NOMA in Manchester, Wellington Place in Leeds and Paradise in Birmingham.

The concept masterplan envisions a high-quality, mixed-use development with the potential to include residential units, a hotel, 80,000sq ft of office space, 5000sq ft of ground floor commercial/leisure space and high-quality public spaces.
